Orthopedics

Biotechnical treatments enrich the conventional range of orthopedic treatments. In contrast to merely treating the symptoms, they are applied directly at the source of the illness. The biological processes in degenerative diseases of joints, the spine and spinal disks have been studied in research work spanning decades. The most important insights: inflammations caused by specific immune substances (cytokines) are at the heart of joint and back complaints.

The biotechnical treatments we offer largely employ the natural "opponents" of these aggressive immune substances (cytokine antagonists). Cytokine antagonists counteract inflammation, pain and loss of cartilage. As a general rule the effects of biotechnical treatments last for several months or years. Another advantage is that they are well tolerated by the body. Since the active substances involved are in part the body's own, side effects or allergic reactions are rare.

Our range of biotechnical treatments includes:

  • Treatment of arthritis and cartilage damage in the joints using Orthokin
  • Treatment of wear on the spine and sciatica using Orthokin.

Pain therapy

Pain therapy is at the heart of orthopedic and neurosurgical treatments. More than eight million Germans suffer from chronic pain. Many of these complaints can be traced back to orthopedic illnesses. Pain therapists distinguish between acute and chronic pain. Acute pain is a healthy reaction on the part of our bodies and an important warning signal. In the case of slipped disks, for example, the brain receives a message from the afflicted nerve cells and triggers the sensation of "pain". In the case of acute pain, immediate treatment of the pain is in the foreground.

If pain is not treated at all or insufficiently, it can become chronic. Pain that is not treated at all or insufficiently can take on a life of its own, resulting in a new complaint. In contrast to acute pain, chronic pain has mostly lost its signaling and warning function. Treatment of chronic pain can, in some cases, be complex and drawn-out because it has separated itself from the original cause of illness. In such cases both the personal as well as the original illness leading to the pain should be treated.

Our range of treatments includes:

  • Pain therapy using medication
  • Local anesthetics (injection of pain relievers, nerve blockers)
  • Injection therapy for arthritis using biotechnically manufactured substances which protect and build cartilage
  • Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is based on the long tradition of the Chinese healing arts. Its origins date back to the middle of the third millennium before Christ. In the Western world, acupuncture has been used to supplement academic medicine for many years. In orthopedic therapies it is used to treat chronic pain as well as for inflammatory and degenerative illnesses, such as arthritis.

By inserting very fine needles at the specific acupuncture point, pain can be relieved and inflammation can be positively influenced. The doctor uses the acupuncture needle to stimulate the specific point connected to the ill or painful part of the body via so-called meridians. This stimulation generates certain impulses that reduce or even block the electric stimulation of nerve cells. In addition, acupuncture is said to have an immunity-stimulating effect. It results in an increase in leucocytes that serve to fight off infections.

What happens during acupuncture?

In our practice, acupuncture is a part of the therapy concept. During an acupuncture session, the patient lies on a bed and relaxes. Depending on the objective of the treatment, the doctor determines the relevant acupuncture points and inserts the acupuncture needles accordingly. They are also additionally stimulated if necessary.

The insertion itself is almost pain-free. At the beginning of the treatment, some patients experience a slight feeling of heaviness, warmth or pressure. This sensation, however, is generally replaced by one of pleasant relaxation after a few minutes.

In the case of acute illness, acupuncture should be performed frequently (up to once a day). In the case of chronic diseases, two treatments per month are sufficient. The therapy should last about six to ten weeks. It has no side effects and can be repeated if necessary.
